I watched The Goonies again not too long ago with my two eldest children (they were around 5 and 7 years of age at the time) and quickly had forgotten about how movies were rated differently back in the 80’s. If I remember correctly, there were plenty of the sh*t word said and possibly an f-bomb but I cannot verify that at the time of this being published. Quite the strong language for a PG movie, however, The Goonies is still a quintessential 1980’s movie classic!
The Goonies grossed $9 million in its opening weekend in the US, second on the charts behind Rambo: First Blood Part II. It grossed over $61 million that year, placing it among the top ten highest-grossing films of 1985 (in the US).
It’s getting close to that time of year again! Time to think about what you (or your kids) are going to be for Halloween or that 80’s party you just invited to. There’s no need to panic — i80s has you hooked up with lots of 80’s costume ideas to choose from!
Some of the eighties styles are actually back again so you can find lots of day glow or fluorescent colored clothes, checkered clothes and shoes, and punk-ish type attire (without being too punk-ish of course) at your local shopping mall. This way you can accessorize your (or your child’s) 80’s costume quite easily.
Wham! costume (can also be used for just a normal 80’s dude or chick) – White pants, a CHOOSE LIFE or similar large lettered shirt (men’s)(woman’s), white sneakers, and do your hair up in an eighties kind of way (women – teased, sprayed, blown) (men – also blow-dried and/or gelled).
Temporary hair dye was all the rage back in the 80’s. Pink, purple, blue, red. Just about every color you can think of was available. Here is an example of what temporary hair dye looked like in the ’80s.
