Grab your ‘Sledgehammer’ & help celebrate Peter Gabriel’s 25th anniversary of ‘So’

Eighties music artist Peter Gabriel wants people to recreate scenes from “Sledgehammer,” his popular 1986 stop-motion music video that MTV says is one of the most-played clips ever on the 24-hour music television network.

An link on the former Genesis rocker’s Facebook page allows his fans to pick a scene from the music video, record a re-creation or upload an existing YouTube clip and vote for the best videos. Click here to recreate scenes from ‘Sledgehammer’.

The “Grab Your Sledgehammer” contest is linked to the 25th anniversary of Gabriel’s “So” album, which was re-released Oct. 22 in three different versions.

One winner will receive a TDKperformance Wireless Boombox and autographed artwork, while 30 runners-up will earn “Sledgehammer” posters. Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” video won nine MTV Video Music Awards in 1987.

Rhett & Link – The 80’s – Music Video

Rhett & Link rock the 80’s in this masterpiece video. I can’t believe I haven’t come across this music vid a while ago, since it was posted in August of ’09. In any case, if I were to do an 80’s video, this one would come pretty damn close. I don’t believe there was any chicks on the hood of the car, pyrotechnics or a keyboard guitar. Was there?

I also found the lyrics just in case you want to sing along:

Song and video written and produced by Rhett&Link.

LYRICS:

The 80’s – Music Video

You kids think – your gear is iconic
But Im gon take you back to see some real electronics
gimme a beige PC, green text, black screen
and 64 kB of memory (thats plenty!)
forget a phone that fits in your pocket
I keep my phone in a bag in my car (thats how we rock it!)
who needs a camcorder, that size of my hand?!
you know I wanna look like a news cameraman!
(I wanna perch it on my shoulder…like an overweight parrot!)

my disks were floppy but my hair was stiff
and all my stickers were scratch and sniff!

In the 80s! If it was big it was good!
80s! My TV was wood!
80s! My car was shaped like box!
80s! Back when everything rocked!

youre tellin me mp3s oh theyre so great
Id rather push Rewind; and sit and wait!
my first VCR cost me five grand
VHS is best! (Im a Beta Man!)

16-button controllers really make me sick!
gimme one red button and a joystick!

In the 80s! the bigger the betta
80s! I had an antenna!
80s! my TV was thick
80s! we didnt point and click
80s! I had a big boom box
80s! I calculated with my watch
80s! My mix tapes were hot
80s! Back when everything rocked!

Yes Rhett & Link . . . The 80’s did ROCK! . . . Thanks for the video guys!

Rubik’s Cube illusion

While we here at i80s.com are fanatics about well, just about anything 80’s related, this is the first time we’ve seen someone just a bit more fanatical about an 80’s toy than we are. In any case, we thought it would be cool to post this interesting Rubik’s Cube illusion.

The person who posted the YouTube video mentions that this is another version of the Rubiks Cube Poster Illusions. The goal was to make it look like an unsolved rubiks cube from one angle …then slowly it changes to a solved cube.

If we find other versions of this illusion, rest assured it’ll be posted on i80s.com!
